Locked Away
The barn owl has always been my favorite bird, an animal that feels wrapped in as much myth as biology. In the wild, they nest in barns, silos, and hollow trees at the edge of open farmland, rarely seen except after dark, long associated with wisdom, but just as often with mystery, watching from somewhere just out of sight.
Locked Away is built from reclaimed steel, gears, and chain, with a real heart-shaped lock worked into its chest, the true center of the piece. Small enough for display inside on a shelf, mantel, or table, or outside as an eye-catching accent, it carries that same watchful quiet wherever you place it.
Conceptually, the question is what's being kept safe, or "locked away." You'll notice a skeleton key grasped in its talons; it's the keeper of the lock, released only on its own terms. I suspect this means something a little different to everyone who notices that detail.
